DISTINCTIONS:Rounded form; white flowers; red fruit, 3/8" long; prefers well-drained acid soils but can tolerate dry soils; full sun.
LIMITATIONS:Susceptible to hawthorn leaf blight.
HARDINESS:SE (Zone 4)
ORIGIN:Cross between C. laevigata ‘Paul's Scarlet’ x C. succulenta at Morden Experimental Station, Manitoba
CULTIVARS:‘Toba’ leaves larger than English hawthorn, 2 to 4 lobed; fragrant, double white flowers fading to pink; resistant to rust; graft incompatibility problems; ‘Snowbird’ originated as an open pollinated seedling of ‘Toba’; double white flowers; supposedly hardier than ‘Toba’; sparse fruit production.
