DISTINCTIONS:Rapidly growing tree; tolerates wet soil; a tree of Alaska's coastal forests and coastal river valleys; similar to balsam poplar; leaves generally broader than long; leaves shiny green above and whitish below, often with rusty specks; seed capsules hairy and nearly round; seed capsules break into three parts.
LIMITATIONS:Messy, drops twigs; cottony seeds on females; spreads by root suckers.
HARDINESS:SC, SE (Zone 3)
ORIGIN:Western North America
